How To Make Scrollbars More Thin on Google Chrome – Without Extension !

Soon after I posted about this nice little extension “Thin Scroll Bar” I got something better from François Beaufort, an easy way to make the scroll bar thin without the extension !

So, dedicating this post to all of you who wants more screenspace on your browser ! Oh, and also to those who will love to keep Chrome more secure, this will get rid of an additional extension which may have access to your browsing history.

Thanks François Beaufort again for keeping the consistent flow of helpful stuff !!

Locate your Custom.css file in ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/User StyleSheets for Ubuntu or C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Default\User StyleSheets for Windows and insert these lines:

#body{}
::-webkit-scrollbar
{
width: 3px;
height: 3px;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar-track-piece
{
background-color: #ffffff;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb:vertical
{
height: 5px;
background-color: #666;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
}
::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb:horizontal
{
width: 5px;
background-color: #666;
-webkit-border-radius: 3px;
}

Reload your tabs and enjoy your new scrollbars! And uninstall the previous extension ;) The only problem here is, the custom.css is not yet being synced ( but extensions are, one small advantage for that extension ) so if you have multiple computers running Chrome or Chrome OS, you will need to make this edit on all of them.

Enjoy !!

WebP in Chrome, Picasa, Gmail With New Features

Remember WebP (Weppy ) ? Let me re-introduce weppy briefly before we start. This is a new image format that Google is working on to make websites work faster by reducing image file sizes without compromising much on the quality of it.

Google recently announced updates on the WebP project and shared some good news about it being supported in Picasa and Gmail now. There have been lot of improvements in the basic architecture of WebP according to the Chromium blog post. If you are using Chrome or Opera, you view some example in the gallery here.

Now, to the newest features, according to the blog post. “WebP is now natively supported in Chrome and Opera. Google products including Gmail and Picasa Web Albums, have also added support to WebP so you can share, send and receive WebP images. WebP support is coming to AppEngine. In addition, Google Instant Previews now store images in WebP to reduce their storage needs.”

Read the blog post for more information.

Google Chrome Canary 13.0.767.1 an overview

Chrome Canary is a frequently-updated experimental build of Google's flagship browser, that gets the latest changes before any other version.

Sounds good? Well, maybe, but there are problems. In particular, Canary's rapid updates come at the expense of manual testing, and so you may be trying out some new tweak that no human being has ever checked to confirm that it works. Sometimes this may work well, but even Google describe Canary as "a highly unstable browser that will often break completely", so there are clearly no guarantees.

Still, you can install Canary to run alongside the regular version of Chrome, so there's no need to choose between the two. You can easily run Canary for general, ad-hoc browsing, turning to Chrome when you need to carry out important tasks, like online banking, or if Canary just seems too unreliable.

There's no need to worry about manual updates, either, as Canary will automatically update itself daily (well, more or less). And so if you're a Chrome fan, or would just like to see where the browser is going next, then the program could well be worth a look.

Use with caution.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play Review

Sony Ericsson announced the Xperia Play earlier this year in February, at the Mobile World Congress 2011. Xperia Arc (full review) and Xperia Neo were also announced along with the Xperia Play. Sony Ericsson is known for delivering the latest Android software updates very late as compared to HTC, Samsung, Motorola etc. I hope they don’t do the smae with the latest Xperia devices i.e. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

The technical specifications of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play are as follows:
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play: Specifications

Display: 4.0-inch LED-backlit LCD display (480 x 854 pixels)

And now, let’s continue with the rest of the review in detail.
Sony Ericsson Xperia Play vs Xperia Arc vs Nexus S – Tweets

I regularly tweeted my views about the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play, while comparing it with other devices like the Sony Ercisson XPERIA Arc and the Google Nexus S.

I’ll quickly run down with the tweets which have my views, observations and differences among all these devices – differences that I have actually come across in my time using it. I posted most of these on my Twitter account, so I’ll just quote my tweets here:

“Nice experience so far with the XperiaPlay”

“PlayStation controls on the #XperiaPlay works with most of the games.”

“Most of the games are ‘optimized’ for XperiaPlay in the XPERIA Store.”

“Sony Ericsson XperiaPlay is bulky, but pretty fast on the software side. Feels a tad bit faster than the XPERIA Arc.”

“Camera on the XperiaPlay sucks! = No Exmor lens or modified Camera app. It’s stock!”

“XperiaPlay build quality is not good either. All plastic. Samsung does plastic way better than Sony Ericsson.”

“Crazy thought, but I’m thinking of installing Launcher Pro on the XperiaPlay. SE’s launcher is NOT that good.”

“For some reason, I wasn’t able to install XperiaPlay PC software at home desktop.”

“XperiaArc is almost half the size of XperiaPlay :P Compared it quickly this morning.”

“Damn! After fudging around since yesterday, I can finally take screenshots on the XperiaPlay and XperiaArc. Bleh!”

“Compared XperiaArc with XperiaPlay. It’s half its thickness =P”

“XperiaArc is so much faster, lighter and sexier than the XperiaPlay. Play is all bulky and fat =”

“After using XperiaPlay and XperiaArc today, I can conclude my rants with that Sony Ericsson has done some major work after the XperiaX10″

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play: Design

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is fat, a bit heavy and bulgy to hold. It features the smae signature Xperia body with curved buttons at the bottom – but this device has an exception. It has has the sliding PlayStation controls, that is what makes this device thick in size.

This phone is only 16mm thick, that is way more than the XPERIA Arc (8.7mm) because of the sliding PlayStation controls. It weighs 175g.Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play Review

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play: Display

Sony Ericsson Xperia Play comes with a 4.0-inch LED-backlit LCD display, which to me, seems the same as the LCD on the Xperia X10. It was not much of a stand-out, and we still think this phone could have had the BRAVIA mobile engine, like in the Xperia Arc.isplay screen performance in direct sunlight was pretty bad as compared to the Mobile BRAVIA display technology in Xperia Arc and the Super AMOLED display on the Nexus S or Galaxy S (full review).

New chrome box of google by samsung ,for desktop

Google Chromebox, Chrome OS for Desktops by Samsung

Share

Google announced Chromebooks, and unveiled the Samsung Chromebook and the Acer Chromebook at the second day of Google I/O 2011 earlier today.

Along with that, their came a very interesting announcement that Google is working on – the Google Chromebox. This Samsung-built Chromebox will provide the same Chrome OS experience on your desktop, more like Mac Min, but it will have the web-centric Chrome OS for desktops.

No solid details available at the moment, but soon we’ll have something to share as it gets revealed with time. It seems this was just a prototype that Smasung is working on for the Chrome OS for Google to bring the Chrome experience on desktop computers.
